Malaysia The Highest Country Of Obesity Problems In Southeast Asia- Study

A study conducted by the World Population Review shows that our country, Malaysia has the highest number in Southeast Asia.

More than 15.6 per cent of Malaysians suffer from this problem when compared to Brunei (14.6 per cent), Thailand (10.0 per cent) and Indonesia (6.9 per cent). According to Public Health Physician, Community Health Department, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Dr Norliza Ahmad, there are four main factors that contribute to this problem.

  1. nutrition

  2. physical activity

  3. environment

  4. genetics

But this problem not only affects adults when children are also contributors to the disease.

Based on data released by NHMS 2019, 29.8 percent of children between the ages of 5 to 17 are overweight including obese.

But, according to an article released by BERNAMA, this is very scary because the trend has tripled in less than a decade.
